Walking Dead Season 3 Finale (Spoilers)

Last night's season finale of the walking dead was not the most eventful, but contained a lot of important plot elements to set up the next season. Here is a quick rundown of the major plot points revealed last night:

  • The Prison Attack - The Governor's assault on the prison finally takes place, with a surprise turn. The group pretended to leave town. As the Governor's army searches the prison, they are tricked into a sneak attack of alarms, flash bangs  and walkers in the catacombs. As the army retreats, they are attacked by Glenn and Maggie on the way out.
  • Carl Straight Up Mercs A Dude - Based upon his father's shortcomings, Carl has adopted a new philosophy: Don't let any potential enemy slip away. After the attack, a young soldier stumbles upon Carl and Hershel in the forest. He agrees to be peaceful and drop his weapon, but it is too late. Carl shoots the kid with his handgun. (What was up with that giant silencer?)
  • The Governor Finally Shows Woodbury His True Colors - Only a select few were aware of the true nature of the Governor. That was until the Governor used an assault rifle to mow down half of the town. He then drives off, not to be seen for the rest of the episode.
  • The Death of Andrea - This was the main side-plot of the episode. Andrea wrestles to break free of the torture chair before a dying man turns and attacks her. She did break free from the chair, but could not take down the walker with her bare hands. I had a hard time believing this since Andrea has become quite the skilled fighter. In her last moments, Andrea decides to take her own life. I thought that was a nice touch, it is what she always wanted.
  • The Group Basically Quadruples in Size - After all of the fighting, the prison group teams up with the remaining Woodbury residents. Both groups decide to live at the prison. This includes the addition of Tyrese to main group. This is an exciting moment for fans of the comic book. With that said there is one problem. The Governor killed the majority of Woodbury's able-bodied adults. This leaves the group taking in a large amount of children and elderly. I have a feeling this will put a large stress on resources next season.
All of the factors help to set the scene for season 4. Will the Governor return? What will the relationships be like between the new group members? Will Rick and Tyrese become best friends (fingers crossed)?
